beta ended, what can I say... mmm i'll probably pass it was really overhyped, the first 10 levels you are excited killing stuff and exploring, after that, the game seems boredomland, same titlesets, lack of lore, fedex quests, and lots of bugs that i bet will be present on the retail version, (mandatory huge day-0 patches)

And also the adware and the fee for something you will never own is kind of a letdown...

At the end it just leaves you with a Finish and Forget game :3

The adware is the same thing that World of Warcraft runs to make sure people aren't trying to hack the game to get an unfair advantage. And what is this "and the fee for something you will never own?" You own the game, can play if offline. It's just that if you break the eula when playing online they can ban your account, just like Guild Wars or any other online game. If that happens you can probably just make a new account unless they ban your game activation code in which case you can probably just get a key generator to make a new account online.

Which is also against the EULA. LOL

Tried the demo, since an old clan mate mentioned the game, and I didn't find it any convincing to be a good mmo.
Can't compare it with D2, even if some of the developers might have been into coding Diablo.
Even the gameplay is far from it.
To me the game seems more like a futuristic GW/WoW wannabe with some fancy plastic textures.

I had a great deal of fun with the beta. I'm actually tempted by the founder's offer but I'll probable wait and see if the fun lasts. I like that you can play offline as well and then get 3 free character slots for online. I also like the return of a diablo-stye loot system which imo gives the game a lot more staying power.

Wanted to update my thread here, I didn't go and get Hellgate: London on launch day because I was sick (), but I got it today. So far it is a lot of fun, the load times that some websites complained about have been a non issue for me. It is fairly fast paced, faster than Diablo, but a little bit slower than Guild Wars. I have got to say that the opening cinematic is mind blowing ( ). I don't really know what else to add, only maybe two hours in, but I really like the hunter class right now, mix of third/first person shooter and rpg along with the traditional classes with the mage and swordsman.

Unless you intend to go for the founder's offer (lifetime subscription), I'd advise you to hold off from purchasing for quite a while. The game has tons of problems that need to be resolved first.

Yeah, if you are on the fence about it, wait for it to come down to $40. By then the bugs will be fixed and it will be running pretty smoothly. Even though I have only run into one bug, the official forums are littered with people who have run into them and want to rant about it.

I've been playing HGL since buying the collector's edition at Fry's last week. Game play is a bit repetitive, but it's still fun farming for new gear with randomized stats (i.e., lots of variety). The equipment system, random dungeon generation, and skill trees matches D2's original flavor. In-game chat is very weak though, and the client still crashes often enough. Still, it's been good enough to pull me away from GW. At this time, I see little point in subscribing since there aren't enough tangible benefits to justify the extra monthly costs.

The only difference between subscribers and non-subscribers at the moment is guild creation and more characters online. But they plan to release new content every couple of months that is for subscribers only. Non-subscribers can buy this in stores every 9 months (I think) as expansion packs. What is to stop someone for subscribing for one month, paying $10 and downloading all of it instead of buying the expansion for $40 I don't know, but will be interesting to find out.

I don't know... the whole content-available-only-to-subscribers thing makes me somewhat edgy, like the Guru memberships which (among other things) offer you something (graphic signature, ability to post polls) that is by default settings enabled for vBulletin (the forum software this forum runs on)... also similar to the Oblivion DLC packs (which, if you examined the Oblivion main data file in the TESCS2 very carefully, were already there but removed, and if you were watching eagerly pre-release, as I was, you'll note a picture of elven horse armour was actually up a few days before the game went gold), paying for something that was simply taken out for you to pay more.

Close here... been playing since July 2005 and pretty much done with GW1 for now. There's little/no point in farming when all your items will expire with GW2's release. And yes, even the pvp-play gets stale given that I come from a competition-level FPS background.

HGL still crashes too much to be comfortable, but at least the gameplay is pretty good. -- EDIT: The 11/20 patch seems to have fixed the crash bugs Happy camper here.
